- . by wearing cosmetics).

Seasonal care
➤ Remove dead plant shoots:
The swimming pond usually wakes up again from its hibernation in early spring and it is time to undertake a first thorough maintenance. This includes removing brown, partly dead plant shoots before the aquatic plants form fresh shoots. It is also best to clean the swimming pond floor with a special pond suction device (reading tip: Desludging the garden pond – instructions and tips for reducing sludge). The use of pond suction devices has the advantage that little dirt is whirled up and you can clean the pond thoroughly and relatively easily.
➤ Perform water balance / add fresh water:
In individual cases it is also necessary to carry out a water balance by adding new fresh water to your swimming pond. This, in turn, is also important on extremely hot summer days when there is significant water loss in the swimming pond. Then you should also add fresh water to your pond.
➤ Plant care:
Furthermore, you should also rebuild the bank area of your swimming pond in the spring or carefully maintain the existing plant population (more about this here). Don’t forget: walkways, pond entrances and the like also need to be looked after.
You should only use all winter pond equipment in the swimming pond after this work.
Preparing for winter
➤ Remove leaves / flower waste from the pond:
As soon as autumn comes, the bathing season is usually over, so you have to slowly prepare your pond for winter. From autumn onwards, you should always free the surface of the pond from flower waste and leaves. It is best to use a leaf net for this.
Alternatively, you can stretch a fine net over the pond surface. However, you have to empty this every now and then when the leaves are heavily loaded. It is also important that you remove the leaf net in good time before the first snowfall!
➤ Cut back pond plants:
Furthermore, depending on the variety, you have to cut back the pond plants in the swimming pond significantly in late autumn so that they do not produce any organic waste in the pond over the winter. You can also call this cut back a shape cut. You should work on the strongly overgrown pond plants in particular. Only hardy plant shoots such as Reeds can remain whole and ensure that the pond surface does not completely freeze over.
➤ Remove the pond technology from the swimming pond:
As soon as freezing temperatures are expected, you should remove all pond technology from the swimming pond, including the pond pump, a fountain system, lights, etc. You should then clean the pond technology thoroughly after removing it, dry it and place it in a frost-free room over the winter months. During this time, you can easily carry out any repairs and maintenance work on the devices.
