If you feel like changing your own four walls, you can let your home shine in a completely new light with just a little color. And to make renovating fun, you will find 7 valuable tips on painting here.
Many do-it-yourselfers are familiar with the problem: the end result of a renovation in your own four walls evokes feelings of happiness, but it is also associated with a lot of stress and work. We’ll give you tips and tricks on how you don’t have to mess up and clean up when painting with brushes etc. and save yourself a lot of unnecessary work. You are guaranteed to have the tools at home!

- Tips for painting: Keeping your brushes clean
Before using the brush for the first time, cover the upper part of the brush with masking tape – this way the clamp stays clean and you have less to clean.

- Mask the edge of the can
No more sticky paint cans! Before painting for the first time, mask the edge of the can with painter’s tape. This prevents annoying encrustations of paint and makes it much easier to open the lid later.
Expert tip: Glue an additional strip of masking tape across the edge of the can. You can wipe off the brush on this without looking at the edge.

- Stripping aid with rubber band
To keep the edge of the can clean, instead of using a painter’s crepe, you can stretch a rubber band across the can. The rubber bands of preserving jars are very suitable for this. This ensures that the edge of the can stays clean and that the paint can be dosed more easily on the brush.

- Tips for a break from painting
Sometimes a multiple coat is necessary. But for this one must always take a break from painting, in which the last coat can dry. During this waiting time, however, the paint roller and brush should not be exposed so as not to dry out. So wrap your tools in a plastic bag and seal it airtight – this way the paint on the brush and roller stays fresh for up to 24 hours and you can easily reuse it.

- Store wall paint correctly
There is only a small amount of paint left in the paint bucket, but you’ve finished your painting project? No problem! Put the leftovers in jam or pickle jars, seal them airtight and store them standing on the lid in a cool and frost-free place. If the color is bright, it is best to label the glass with color, room and year. If the interior paint is well sealed, it will last about 12 months when opened.
Tip: If you have stored your paint for too long and is therefore no longer suitable for painting or renovating, you can recognize this by an unmistakably foul, putrid smell.

- Painting tips for a clean tub
If you work with a painter’s roller, then a paint tray should definitely be part of your painter’s range. When buying a paint tray, make sure that it has a wiping surface. If you want to paint different shades of color, it can be annoying to thoroughly clean the bathtub every time you change it. So remedy this by placing a thin plastic bag over the tub before the paint is poured into the tub. After painting, you can simply wipe off the bag and dispose of it – the tub stays clean!

- How to clean brushes properly after painting
Dispersion paints, i.e. classic wall paints, are always washed out with water. In order not to let too much paint flow into the drain, first spread the brush well on a cardboard or other absorbent surface and then clean it under warm water.
Attention! When it comes to paints, you have to differentiate between solvent-based and water-based alkyd resin paints. The latter can easily be washed out with water. In the case of solvent-based paints, however, the brushes must be removed with white spirit or white spirit.
